Cannabis In Medical Practice:  Mary Lynn Mathre, Ed.S

Straightforward and nonpoliticized information on the therapeutic uses of cannabis is provided here by medical, legal and scientific professionals. Legal issues, a world-wide history of therapeutic cannabis and a discussion of its pharmacology are covered. Specific medical uses are then examined, including its application for sufferers of cancer, AIDS, glaucoma, and seizure disorders, and its potential use in psychiatry. Dosages and administration of cannabis are explored, along with considerations on the use of the drug during pregnancy and the risks of addiction and dependency.

Medical Marijuana in America: Memoir of a Pioneer:  Alice O'Leary Randall

Medical Marijuana in America: Memoir of a Pioneer reveals the unlikely David and Golaith story behind this national issue. It chronicles the life of one remarkable man and his devoted wife Alice. Randall is the acknowledged "Father" of the medical marijuana movement and Alice has been called the First Lady of Medical Marijuana. This is a shocking story of government indifference to the seriously ill and the unbelievable steps taken by the federal government to squash the medical marijuana movement. It is part history and part biography. But it is also a love story of a remarkable collaboration that changed the way America looks at marijuana.

Cannabis Pharmacy : Michael Backes

Written by Michael Backes, a respected expert in the field, Cannabis Pharmacy begins with the history of medical marijuana and an explanation of how cannabis works with the body's own endocannabinoid system. Backes goes on to explore in detail 27 of the most popular cannabis varieties, how to identify them, the differences between them, and the medical conditions for which patients have reported effectiveness. Additional chapters describe how to prepare and store cannabis, how best to administer those preparations, and how to modify and control dosage.

The Cannabis Manifesto : Steve DeAngelo

The Cannabis Manifesto is both a call to action and a radical vision of humans' relationship with this healing but controversial plant. Steve DeAngelo, the founder of Harborside Health Center, the world's largest medical-cannabis dispensary, presents a compelling case for cannabis as a wellness catalyst that must be legalized. His view that there is no such thing as recreational cannabis use challenges readers to rethink everything they thought they knew about marijuana.

The Pot Book: A Complete Guide to Cannabis

Julie Holland, MD

Exploring the role of cannabis in medicine, politics, history, and society, The Pot Book offers a compendium of the most up-to-date information and scientific research on marijuana from leading experts, including Lester Grinspoon, M.D., Rick Doblin, Ph.D., Allen St. Pierre (NORML), and Raphael Mechoulam. Also included are interviews with Michael Pollan, Andrew Weil, M.D., and Tommy Chong as well as a pot dealer and a farmer who grows for the U.S. Government.

Marijuana - Gateway To Health : Clint Werner

This timely book delves into the ongoing quagmire between the scientific community and the federal government concerning the medicinal properties of marijuana. While the Feds continue to insist that marijuana has no accepted medical value and is too dangerous to use, this ignorant statement blatantly contradicts the results of many promising studies. Author Clint Werner has examined the current research, and summarized it in "Marijuana: Gateway to Health." The book's subtitle "How Cannabis Protects Us from Cancer and Alzheimer's Disease," evokes a new era of understanding about our human relationship to the cannabis plant. Not only can marijuana help treat many serious diseases, it also demonstrates remarkable effectiveness as a preventative medicine.

Understanding Marijuana : Mitch Earleywine

Understanding Marijuana examines the biological, psychological, and societal impact of this controversial substance. What are the effects, for mind and body, of long-term use? Are smokers of marijuana more likely than non-users to abuse cocaine and heroine? What effect has the increasing potency of marijuana in recent years had on users and on use? Does our current legal policy toward marijuana make sense? Earleywine separates science from opinion to show how marijuana defies easy dichotomies. Tracing the medical and political debates surrounding marijuana in a balanced, objective fashion, this book will be the definitive primer on our most controversial and widely used illicit substance.

Home Grown : Isaac Campos

Historian Isaac Campos combines wide-ranging archival research with the latest scholarship on the social and cultural dimensions of drug-related behavior in this telling of marijuana's remarkable history in Mexico.  Home Grown thus traces the deep roots of the antidrug ideology and prohibitionist policies that anchor the drug-war violence that engulfs Mexico today. Campos also counters the standard narrative of modern drug wars, which casts global drug prohibition as a sort of informal American cultural colonization.

Stoned:  David Cassarett

In Stoned, palliative care physician Dr. David Casarett sets out to do anything—including experimenting on himself—to find evidence of marijuana’s medical potential. He smears mysterious marijuana paste on his legs and samples pot wine. He poses as a patient at a seedy California clinic and takes lessons from an artisanal hash maker. In conversations with researchers, doctors, and patients around the world he learns how marijuana works—and doesn’t—in the real world. Often humorous, occasionally heartbreaking, and full of counterintuitive conclusions, Stoned offers a compassionate and much-needed medical practitioner’s perspective on the potential of this misunderstood plant.

There are new questions of social etiquette: Is one expected to offer a neighborly toke? If so, how? Is it cool to bring cannabis to a Super Bowl party? Yea or nay on the zoning permit for a marijuana shop two doors down from the Safeway? Plus, there are the inevitable conversations between parents and children over exactly what this adult experiment with marijuana means for them.
